Was wondering about this awhile back, curious to see how it works for you!

Same here I saw that same video, please share how it works for you.

I'm going to clean them out in a couple days then ill post my thoughts on here. Hopefully they don't clog up before then.

Do you have any overflow holes in the sock chamber so water flows into the sump if anything gets clogged? I know the filters themselves have an overflow protection but just wondering

Yeabtheres slits at the top of the sump incase they totally clog up. It happened to me once with felt socks lol

They look like they will be inefficient and clog too easily thus requiring frequent maintenance

Will do. I have high hopes it'll work. Throwing away socks every 3 weeks sucks.

First 24 hours in operation and it appears to be holding up well. No overflowing and visibility catching larger particles. I feed quite a bit...reef Jerky 4 timed a day, TDO pellets twice a day, Rods food once or twice a day, depending if I'm home.

The newest resident. Ive been going back and fourth between the blue and red haddoni for a while now. Just got done with a 10 day cipro treatment in QT. It didn't like it all that much plus the lack of lighting on the QT didn't help. The blue is a little subdued compared to when I got it, but im sure will return over time.

It's resident clown is still in QT. Ran a chloroquine treatment on it and not has a few more days in copper with some other additions.

Changed put the pump on the Ultrareef to the DC upgrade. I'm not sure how I feel about it...I was pulling some thick dark nog with the AC pump..this one is more of a dirty green tea. It is hell of a lot quieter tho. Can't hear a thing compared to the AC sicce. I'll give it a few more days and some tuning.

Sicce Synchra Silent pumped are anything but silent. I've been slowly replacing them on anything I have running on the tanks.

Are you running the DC ones? I'm finding the noise from the air silencer to be louder than the pump. But then again, it's encased inside the body of the skimmer so that maybe helps muffle the sound

The AC ones. I'm actually replacing all the ones that were on my calcium reactors and media reactors. I just find in general the seem to start rattling in the any of the synchra line of pumps. Not sure if the impellers swells or gets warped, but they all end up being noisy for me.

Installed the disc filters on Thursday am and this is what they have collected up until now.

Keeping my cadence of cleaning after 3 days, I found that the filters amazingly held up. I expected them to clog up quick and overflow into itself but that wasn't the case. I doubt it would have lasted much longer than a couple more days, given the water levels pictured.

Washing them out was fairly simple but tedious. Loads of uneaten food, algae, and other detritus all spilled out as I flipped through the disk while rinsing, but that's the pain point. Having to flip through all of the disk to dislodge detritus takes a while. Cleaning these out took 3 times as long as flipping a couple socks inside out and rinsing all the loose crap away.

Both have been cleaned out and reinstalled, now waiting to see if the filters life is shortened or if ever 3-4 days is possible to get out of it. For those who change out their socks weekly or longer, I would advise against these.

Intresting. I'm wondering if there is a easier rising method? That would make that part less of a choore. From the orginal video I saw of it i definitely know what your meaning the individual disks.

Next time I'm going to clean it during the day and just blast that sucker with the garden hose...that should loosen things..lol

If i actually ever had mechanical filtration in my tanks and I used something like this, I'd take it the pressure washer to it. That would probably clean it up in minutes.

Yea..flipping through each disk individually is no fun...I dunked it in a 2 gallon bucket thinking it would be easier but the disc all stick together when in water.

The water pressure in my bathroom wasn't enough to dislodge it..well see how the hose pans out in 3 days.

If it saves me from tossing socks all the time, I guess I can chalk it up as a win, with some drawbacks.

A few updates...

With the weather warming, Temps got to the point where opening a window wasn't enough and we got the AC going. Shortly after, I noticed my ph dropping as well had everything closed up. I've been collecting parts to run an airline outside to offset the high co2 in the house.

Being placed near a window, drilling directly through the wall was no sweat.

I picked up an electrical box from Amazon and an air filter and got to work.

Cleaned up the inside and ran the airline directly to the skimmer.

I decided to move away from the cannister filters and threw in the roller mat. Cleaning them every 4 days sucked. Quick rinses would give me 3 days without overflowing. A deep clean gave me 4...it was a good concept but as much as I feed, it just wasn't for me.

I wasn't too concerned when I saw the temp hit 81, but I know summer hasn't even hit and I'm not trying to wait for the next heatwave to kicked I to action. The effects were apparent rather quickly.

You can see when things started warming up and us turning on the AC. An hour or so passes while I work on the line then you see the ph start to climb again.

Overall, I'm happy with it. Ill probably try to source a bigger ID silicone hose to reduce the restriction in the line, but pretty contempt on how it looks. Best part, she didn't even notice I drilled directly through the walls...to capitalize on this opportunity, I drilled a couple more holes to the outside for possible AWC lines leading to outside mixing containers.

Lastly, this guy's is not doing so hot. The flow ge erated by the gyres is awesome..the whole column makes its way in a giant circle then changes every 6 minutes. Unfortunately for this haddoni, flow is not their friend. Here he is parked in the back to the tank.

Purely space..things are starting to get cramped under the tank. I underestimated how much room I need for maintenance. Opening and closing the algae reactor, kalk reactor, or even calibrating the ph probes involves me getting in cramped spaces. Whatever I could relocate away and put of sight is ideal, considering it's just a carbon change a few times a year.

It's been one hell of a week. My daughter finished up her first year in college and needed to move out of her dorm till fall. Given that they had graduation ceremonies going on, they didn't want movers all over the place, so strict time frames were given to clear everything out.

Since we're driving, I thought I'd look for any interesting LFS in the Santa Barbara. While a few looked interesting, I noticed Vivid wasn't too far. We cleared out her dorm like she was being robbed..packed up the car and decided I'd take them somewhere nice to eat since we were in the area

I dropped the bomb of a proposal in making the drive to Vivid. By that time of the day, the trip time went from 1 hour 20 minutes to 2 hours and 40 min. It was already 2pm and Vivid closes at 5, so we hit the road quick.

We ended up getting there at 4:50 and ran inside..it was overwhelming to say the least..I felt like a kid walking into Disneyland for the first time. I had 10 minutes to choose what I wanted since they were getting ready to close. There was a mental wish list I had prepared and requested it all.

Turns out, that although Its Vivid, the Vivid insanity and Vivid confetti aren't always in stock, or still being grown out due to high demand. I still picked up a few pieces to feed the habit:

Everything was packed up in an Insulated bag and trip for the trip home.

Having my birthday so close to fathersday is basically a free pass to do as I please, so I had to take full advantage of the situation.

Part 2 - my fathersday gift to myself.
TSA has a sale on their site that I attached to come in on the 13th. Colors looked good. Things appeared to be fairly fresh cut and recently glued.

By the time I finished with the dipping, evening came and we strike it out to AC to see if Yoshi had anything good for me.

The two larger ones were selected by my kids. I was damn happy they didn't get anything wierd or super aggressive.
Mid evening, my time was running out and I decided it was time to get some of these placed. Had to take a pic with 4 of my 5 kids that got the coral for me at AC. My eldest had work.
