AI Vega Vs AI Prime

Been battling hair algae for 3 months now. It is only my tallest rock that has the issue. The tallest rock has been shaded for 3 weeks now, and it has no effect on the algae.

I have reduced the output of my Vega from 80% to 50% back around the 1st week of December. AC feels that my Vega just might be way to much light for the 30gallon biocube.

So I have been wondering if I should change out my Vega for a Prime

I am thinking the Prime because it is a much new light technology than the 13 year old Vega, and probably more adjustable.

Fish and corals all seem to be happy.

But the hair algae is driving my wife nuts.

Our Longnose Hawkfish seems to like it though, that is it's favorite place to be almost all day long.

Do you have any herbivores in your tank?
two clowns
one 6 line Wrasse
one Longnose Hawkfish
one Bangaii
one Ruby Red Dragonette
two turbos
two trochus
two nassarus

I was recommended a crab, but AC was out of them, and Neptune doesn't sell them... and I forgot the name of it :p Coral safe is a must.

The lighting changes. It is currently set to the Philippines. It has lunar cycles, and the lighting changes duration throughout the year.

Right now lunar cycle is active, around 1am goes dark. 6am it starts ramping with dark blue led. Then starts bringing in red, and green around 8am. White light joins the party around 9 full power at 10. Night starts around 4ish.

If you’re not trying to spawn stuff I wouldn’t bother with the changing light cycles or lunar stuff. If you’re battling hair algae I’m a fan of less hours of lights on.
I usually stay at 7 hours total to minimize algae and it seems enough for most corals.
No studies or anything, but seems to help limiting warm white and red colors as well.
I’m not a fan of AI primes. Seen too many have annoying fan issues and just stop working.
