Kessil

Andrew's Red Sea Reefer 250

Ah that sucks sorry!! Love how you fitted the top nice and tight! . I used to toss a round ten/ twelve ft 1/4 inch mesh cast net for bait in Florida. Most of the bait fish from 2 to 5 inches would get their head and gills stuck in the 1/4 inch mesh which it was designed for that purpose. Ive witnessed fish especially wrasses due to their torpedo shape getting caught up in friends mesh netting tops..Not sure why aquarium suppliers don’t caution or recommend proper mesh size based on what size of fish in tanks to prevent this scenario?..

That's crazy! Yeah, I should have gone for the 1/8" netting from BRS. For now, I'll just buy bigger fish.

A couple of weeks ago, I swapped out two Kessil 360x for knock off XR30s. The goal was to get more PAR to hopefully improve Acro growth and color. I got the "Pro" versions which come with CREE LEDs. As expected, these put out a ton of par. I made the initial mistake of running them at 80% right off the bat (~300-350 PAR). Several people pointed out that's probably not a good idea (@Darkxerox - thanks!). I don't think my LPS/Softies appreciated the jump in PAR. I've since turned them down and slowly ramping back up. So far so good. My only complaint is that the app is terrible. You have to watch a 6 second ad before you can get to the app and adjust your lights!! 1/10 on the UX. I guess you get what you pay for lol! I still plan to keep one kessil in the middle.

If you added reflectors to kessils they put out more par fyi. I have them on all of mine.

The 55 degree ones.

There are 35 degree ones but you would need several more kessils as the spread is much tighter.

It's a good idea, I really wanted to increase PAR over a larger area though. I still may put one on the remaining kessil to create a hotspot for higher PAR.

Amazing - 6 second ad before you can use the equipment. I guess this is what Amazon did with some of their tablets, for a reduced price. Do they have an option to pay off the ad feature?

Can I ask, how much were these each?

Yeah, it's very annoying. No option to remove the ad feature that I'm aware of... They were ~$300/pc for just the fixture. I paid an extra $75 for the mounts/hardware.

Yes, this is a good price if they are as a good as folks say.

I would still use Reefi and Quanta light as the reference point for light purchase deliberation, not so much Ecotech or ATI (which are known to charge a significant brand premium) - both do not have an ad supported ad and are still very powerful, potentially more than the Ali. Anyway, I barely if ever look at my light settings so this small annoyance is rather minor.
