Connecting Bulkheads to PVC

So I am really confused but when I bought my bulkheads they stated you needed to drill a 1 1/4" hole for a 3/4" bulkhead and drill a 1 3/4" hole for a 1" bulkhead. That was done already and when I got the bulkheads they dropped right in place. now comes the werid part. On the female side of the bulkhead the "correct" size PVC fitting (male) screwed right in. But on the underside of the tank where the male threaded side of the bulkhead is no PVC fitting seems to work. So far these are the ones I have tried.

3/4" bulkhead ~ 3/4" fitting, 1" fitting, 1 1/4" fitting, 1 1/2" fiting - this is the same size as the hole which fit

1" Bulkhead ~ 1" fitting, 1 1/4" fitting, 1 1/2" fitting

All of these were to big or to small.

So I am guessing that you need a special fitting to connect with a bulkhead? Anyone know what these are called and somewhere that carries them localy to SF or Richmond area.

The PVC connects to the inside of the bulkhead, not the outside thread which is for the flange to tighten the bulkhead. On the inside of the bulkhead you have a slip or threaded fitting where you connect the PVC.
Hope this helps.

For overflow, I always use slip-slip bulkhead. I glue the outside. Inside I don't glue. It's easy to pull out when I need to clean the overflow box. I don't trust the thread thing for the outside unless it's a SCH 80 bulkhead.
