Cracked Impeller

My skimmer stopped working yesterday. Here's the culprit. Any idea what causes this or how to prevent it? Every few months I soak my pumps in a vinegar solution to clean them.

This is from the Sicce Syncra on my ATB 840 v2 Skimmer. It's in the first chamber of my sump. I don't use filter socks, so it can get a little grimy in there.

We've had a few that swell... seems notorious in skimmers.

It's happened to a few of my (normal, non-skimmer) pumps. Maxijets, rios, etc. Not sure how it starts, but it's almost like rust is busting it open. Some have just cracked somehow. Time to replace it.
