Without going into details, I went to an old job that I thought had shut its doors and took down the tank over a month ago. Not the case the business shut down, but not the tank, a 300g reef. I don't need to tell you what a 300g reef looks like after a month of neglect, the craziest part is that the 2 Eheim 1262 pumps were running dry and from the amount of water I added to get things running again I'd venture to guess they were running for at least 3 weeks DRY. I added water and everything was peachy, holy crap what a good product :)
 
Yep. Awesome pump. I had some that ran dry in CA reactors all the times for days and as soon as water get to the volute again, started up like a champ.
 
Aren't pumps (some, most...) supposed to be "Thermally Protected" ?
I experimented a Koralia running dry for at least two days; works as it should; it was very hot when I found it; the rattling noise led me to it.
I thought the high temperature makes them shut off by the motor circuitry.
