Long story short-I switched the plugs for the avast feeder and tube. Didn’t notice until much later.. basically dumped a lot of pellets now sitting on sand floor?

Recommendations?
Bury it with new sand? Try to gravel it out?
Leave it be and the snails and shrimp will eventually deal with it?

Bah.

You could also use a suction tube/hose as suggested by many but ziptie a ladies stocking to the drain end of the hose (a filter sock could work as well) and place the end into the sump this will allow you to suction all you want without actually draining the tanks water.

Water change works as well. However the amount of water you have on hand for a water change can limit how much time you can actually use the siphon for. This is just a way which removes that limitation. I have used this method for planaria flatworm before.

This is an awesome work around. But it might look weird if I am buying ladies stockings. Hahahahaha.

I like that idea.
I have a rollermat -so it’s sucking up as much as possible. Normally it moves 6 inches -today up to 54 inches already!

Fortunately high tide is right up the street, so 12 today. 15 tomorrow-and prob 15 Sunday as I can make quick runs

Did you siphon them all out?
No. I got as much as possible but there is still a lot in the sand I couldn’t get. By the time I realized what I had done -I had started other mitigation steps as it was already past 4-5 hrs - namely getting up on water changes. Now see if water changes (12-15 g) a day, a rollermat, and some carbon does the trick.

First for everything. Bah.

But, water change is how you siphoned them out? I’m confused. Don’t leave a ton of pellets rotting on the sand overnight!
Siphoned what I could. blew a lot of it into the overflow where the rollermat would
Capture it as well. So a ton were captured -but I think def some left that I couldn’t get..

Water change is only to offset potential ammonia & nutrient spikes.,

I use this method for every cleaning. I use the Red Sea 225 micron plastic (not felt) filter socks doubled up. Clamp the socks on the wall of the sump. Clamp 1/2 tubing into the socks. Siphon to filter for as long as I want or until the sock fills up. The plastic mesh is a lot easier to clean than felt. Doubled up because it lets less through. You could have the second one be finer micron size for extra points.

I don’t have a rollermat, but siphoning down to the chamber right before the rollermat would achieve the same and probably be easier (though more expensive).

I don’t recommend the stockings method mostly because as it fills up the hole size increases and lets stuff out. Also since it’s floppy it’s harder to work with.
