For those interested in buying G2 Red Sea tanks

Well yes and no. Pressure is always pushing out. Trying to rip the silicone off the glass. The wave makers pound the glass constantly like a little hammer. Over a few years fatigue will set in on the silicone. Since it’s a single panel with no euro brace or anything. The panels are already compromised.
Also. The stand is a poor design. If you notice the front panel or rear panel is always hanging off the stand. That means that piece of glass is being pulled down constantly by gravity.
 
I don’t blame the wave makers at all. I’m no physics expert tho
I would never buy a rimless tank. I prefer eurobrace for sure. Strength and no splashing, less fish jumping, somewhere to set stuff while I work etc
I also agree the stand has always seemed strange to me. Not sure it matter though.

The G2 also failing is a given, in my opinion, from what I have been hearing in the German speaking forums. Curious though when we start hearing about the new G3s having the same issue.

Gieseman also sells aquariums (Germany only) and they recently advertised that none of their tanks ever failed in 20 years or so they have been selling them...

In the video. He said the g3 has a euro brace. He asked for the g3. But red sea said no. He can only have the g2 replacement

I think small aquariums under 40-50 gallons have that problem. The stress on the silicone is probably not as great. If I had to guess.
Way back in the day. Like in the early 2000’s I had a tunze wave box when they first come out. Tunze said they dont recommend it be used on glass aquariums as it may cause seam failure.
I think companies ignore basic rules over design of the attraction. Just doesn’t make sense in my head.

Floating front glass is not a bad design in itself. My Lee Mar which has probably been wet for around 15-20 years is floating front panel. I do very much dislike red sea stands and have a feeling that may be part of the issue as they are unevenly supporting the bottom of the tank and can cause the bottom glass to droop in the middle.
