Well let me start off by saying "I messed up big time". Weds evening I got this frag tank Idea going , I set up a 20l and added my tank water ,a pair of maxijets 400 (one each on opposite sides , eggcrate for frags , heater, and a sunpod 70watt mh on part of the tank / 2 t5's over the rest. Filtration was a carbon reactor and weekly water changes (sounds good so far ) .
On friday afternoon I noticed my blue hawkins looked a little brown in a couple of spots . So I could'nt tell if it was from recent fragging or possible moving it from a partially shaded area, anyhow I got a great idea.....since I had a frag tank set up and the parameters were almost exact to display tank parameters , I will dip in REVIVE and put all my acro frags that I had on racks into the frag tank. after dipping appx 25 minutes (maybe that was more like soaking than dipping) I could'nt see anything ressembling pests in the bucket other than pods, sediment, astrina star fish. Then I thought since alot of my acro colonies are starting to touch and I need to move some around ....I know ...I'll put them into frag tank as well and start reattaching them as I want them to be on saturday. You know instead of just superglue maybe using putty and thinning out the herd of corals by only putting in what I want and trading/selling that ones that no longer appealed to me. Well later that night my worst nightmare took place.
Roughly 6 hours later I went into my garage (where I set up the frag tank) and once the smell of acro death hit my nose.....I new what that meant....Looked into frag tank and it was all milky and hard to see anything through it....CRAP , started siphoning water out (5 gallons ) and replace with nsw, noticed alot of my frags had turned completely white (dead), checked parameters again all seemed fine, changed out carbon and hoped for the best. I did'nt put corals back into main display because they where all sliming and did not what to have same effect in display tank.
Saturday morning I checked tank, still coudy , more coral die off , did another water change and changed out carbon. Repeated this procedure again sat evening and tank appeared to be getting a little clearer, I also changed the two maxijets out with two tunze 6045's , much better flow.
Today after church services I did notice tank was looking pretty clear but I did another water/carbon change. The remaining corals seem to be stabilizing, I cut a few more dead spots off the remaining corals hoping the rest will continue to survive.
Jeeez this weekend sucked for me. Oh and I never did find any pest on the corals >
On the bright side I still have the display tank doing fine and a crap load on montis , chalices in it to put onto bare spots. I don't know why this backfired on me, maybe dipped too long ? too many corals sliming in a small set up? corals did not like the move ?
Live and learn I suppose, Don't know which corals/mini colonies passed away and not sure if the remaining ones will all make it but at this point i'm leaving them in the now QUARANTINE TANK until they show signs of improvement.
So far I know for sure I lost my
HAWKINS
SUHARSONIO (DEEP WATER)
TEAL GOMESI
GREEN TIPPED TENIUS
LORIPES
VALIDA
MIYAGI TORT
OREGON TORT
BALI TRICOLOR
GARF BONSAI
C-AQUARIUM UNKNOWN
LOKANIS
CRAP LOAD OF OTHERS I CAN'T THINK OF RIGHT NOW
RASPBERRY LEMONADE NASUTA
PINK LEMONADE
I will post some pics of what the frag tank looks like and display as well, did'nt take picks of the dead ones (never really wanted to have that as a reminder since the death scene is permanantly etched into my brain) a liitle later.
