I am new to this hobby! Just turned 38, never had anything besides a 20 gallon fish tank back in the day.. Came across a few reef videos on Instagram and couldnt resist myself buying Infinia 230.6 during their recent sale! Huge shoutout to Ed from @ClearWaterAquarium who has been really patient with all my newbie questions and extra generous with all the wonderful advice.. My tank should arrive in about 2 weeks from now, cant wait to get started!

Welcome to the BAR !!
Grats on the 230g
Do you have a list of preferred livestock?
Start off with as much pre soaked natural live rock you can get your hands on which will give you a great head start bypassing the ugly stage!! Unless your taking the dry sterile route journey to help with pests and quarantined treated stock..
Have fun!!

Welcome to the club! Planning ahead is very useful and I'd probably recommend figuring out what type of hardware you plan on using (I'm assuming your Waterbox doesn't come with pumps, lights, heaters, etc.).

We can give suggestions if you have budget numbers you're looking to stick to.

One big tip, be wary of online advice (outside of this club of course) as they often have a vested interest in selling you something.

Last tip also is that patience is key, you're going to be hyped up and want to buy things ASAP, but you'll see in other tank journals here, a lot of experienced people have very deliberate plans from the get go. But you can skip the wait like @PjFish said by curing some rock in saltwater sooner than later.

thanks everyone.. I have been reading a ton but realized very soon, no amount of information is good enough in this hobby! There is always so much more to learn..

@Darkxerox Ed, helped order most of the stuff.. I am planning to get used Kessils (I like AP9x, so put me in touch with someone who is selling one of those at a reasonable price :) ).. I am planning to start the cycle with Fritz turbo start and Ammonium Chloride.. I have heard good reviews about the same, but also getting 150g life rock, live sand and biomedia (thanks to Ed's advice again).. Please share any experiences anyone might have going this route to cycle their tank!

Welcome to BAR! And good on ya for supporting a LFS to get you setup. I am looking forward to seeing that gorgeous tank up and running. Always remember to ask any and all questions. These folks have helped and continue to help me in so many ways. Decades of wisdom to save you a lot of heart ache. I listened to a lot of these folks that have replied to you about live rock and it was amazing how quickly my tank was ready! Fast forward to now and I don't think I would ever start a tank with bottled bacteria.

Whats your plan for a mixing station unless your going with nsw ( natural saltwater) then just need large storage tanks
RODI filtration system? Start off with a reputable name brand or quality parts if making your own

Welcome!!

This looks like a REALLY nice tank. Nothing better than the anticipation :).

Starting with a big tank such as this will be very challenging but seems like you have pro help, which you truly need at this point.

+1 on the journal - best to start doing it today.
+1 on the bottle bacteria comment from Andy @ReyDeFarts
+1 on getting real live rock, from the ocean though. KP Aquatics or https://tbsaltwater.com/

Also, try to get at least some live sand, unless you go bare-bottom. Real live sand from the ocean, not the one from a bag. Only TBS has that though from what I know.

Good luck.
