IM 40 Torch Tank

Picked up this hg torch a couple of days ago. Unfortunately it’s not doing well. Going into QT for treatment. Its good to have a small QT tank readily available.

The past few months have been tough on my tank. I’ve removed the old aquascape, added a new one, and switched from bare-bottom to a sandbed. Those changes triggered mini-cycles that stressed the corals, but things have stabilized now and they’re looking much happier.

One of the main reasons I brought the sandbed back was purely for the look. Bare-bottom definitely made maintenance easier, but I really missed that natural sandy feel—and all the little critters that come with it.

BTW: does anyone here just leave their sandbed alone and rely on the clean-up crew to keep it clean?

In the nem tank my only one with sand, I've never once cleaned sand. Nither do i clean crushed coral in main tank. I've never even suctioned water from main display during water changes. I cut off the return and empty the sump all the way and refill it.

Don't take this as me saying this is right way or anything. I've never had any issues with sand bed in nem tank cyano or detritus etc making things look bad where I would want to clean it. However If it looked bad or had issues I would do something for sure.

Tank looks insane!

The tank has been stable, and parameters are: ALK: 8-9, P03: .05-1, N04:15-25.
  • Added sand about a month ago, and so far, no uglies.
    • The goal is to have the sand critters mix up the sand bed so I wouldn't need siphoning.
    • Added 2 tiger conches, 6 hermit crabs, and 3 Nassarius snails.
  • Tank have remained relatively clean -
    • NO Pests: ( Vermited Snails, Flatworms, Bristleworms, Asternina Starfish, etc).
    • NO nuisance Algae - Grean Hair Algae and Cyano is noticeable in the sump but not the display.
  • Banghai Cardinals are breeding.
