ISO mandarin

Usually you can only find the Synchiropus splendidus (green mandarins) captive bred from Biota and those are definitely pellet trained. I rarely see captive bred Synchiropus ocellatus (scooter mandarins) but they sometimes exist. But the vast majority you'll see for sale in stores will be wild caught and a huge gamble.

I got a wild (spotted mandarin) Synchiropus picturatus from High Tide and it eventually started eating mysis shrimp that settle to the sand.

I also got a spotted mandarin from High Tide. Mine will actually swim with the other fish and eat frozen food from the water column. He’s pretty bad at it, though.

I’d hesitate to keep any mandarin, captive, QTed, or wild, without a healthy population of copepods.

We have 2 green spot mandarins in house, we have had them both for about a month both eat misis 1 eats TDO pellets. We can also order captive bred from Biota and ORA as well.

Cheers,
Nick
