Looking for a job

Hi BAR,

I've had a lot of great interactions with people through BAR since I moved to the Bay Area for grad school in 2013, so I figure it can't hurt to reach out to the community again here.

I've worked as a biologist in Professor John Pringle's lab at Stanford University for the past 5 years. We studied the molecular biology and genetics of coral bleaching, mostly using Aiptasia as a model organism. As you may have seen from my giveaway posts here in the Pay It Forward section, Professor Pringle is retiring and his lab is shutting down. As of today, I'm officially unemployed, and haven't been having any luck applying for jobs across biotech and pharma. The job market for biologists is terrible at the moment, with higher interest rates killing off the many pre-profit biotech startups that flourished in the post-pandemic era, and cuts and uncertainty about federal funding for research eliminating university and public sector positions.

So I'm reaching out here and would really appreciate any connections you might have to companies/institutions looking for molecular biologists. I have PhD in Microbiology from UC Berkeley, and experience with CRISPR, next-generation sequencing, flow cytometry, confocal microscopy, filamentous fungi, microalgae, and marine invertebrates. I'm also skilled at data analysis and visualization in R and many subject specific programs (e.g. Fiji, bowtie, CRISPResso, etc). I mainly want to get my foot in the door of private sector research, as I've only worked in academia so far. So I'd welcome any opportunity, even if it doesn't really require PhD. That said, I'm especially interested in a position in which I can gain experience with human cell culture (ideally with pluripotent stem cells), as that seems to be a very in-demand skill set I'm missing.

My LinkedIn profile is here.

Thanks for any opportunities you can send my way!
