Marathon runners drinking NSW

While down at Petes Coffee this morning chilling a small group of us were chatting about hobbies. I chatted about the saltwater hobby and BAR. Another person who runs numerous 100 mile events locally & abroad chimed in that they only drink natural ocean sea water during their runs! Not any sea water but deep sea water which is sterilized & filtered and tested for chemical makeup. They dilute it 3 to 1 but the 135 mile Death Valley marathon 1 to 1 or stronger.. They get better results less cramping with nsw vs man made products.. Maybe similar to isotonic IV fluids administered in hospitals…For curiosity here’s what they drink!

Damn...at that price, I may need to repurpose my carbon blocks and UV sterilizers. I also have a bridge to sell.

Not sure if I was understanding your reference to isotonic fluids in hospitals, but seawater is definitely not used for that, it is synthetic and very simple compared to seawater. And by definition isotonic means not diluted, so it is used to expand the blood volume, for example in people whose blood pressure is dropping because of severe bleeding, not to replace sweat. The runner person was talking about how much they dilute the seawater, and the dilution is the key part since drinking undiluted seawater when sweating a lot would be very dangerous, potentially lethal.

Maybe the wrong reference but isn’t a normal saline IV .9% NaCl & water considered an isotonic fluid helping replace electrolytes from dehydration/ sweating? Totally agree sea water has more stuff going on on but was thinking NaCl was the common factor or the hangover Iv lactated ringer with water sodium, potassium, calcium, chloride, and lactate. I know a nurse who does pretty good making house calls administering lactated ringer IV’s lol very popular down in Hollywood through a legit company..Which the runner mentioned during their recovery process after 100 plus mile runs getting those IV’s. But since using natural sea water ( diluted normal 3 to 1) no need for the IV’s.. There rationing was all the other minerals like over 40 in natural sea water have a play and work better then man made hydration products for their bodies . Not comparing nsw to bucket salt..

One of the interns of a user of RM phyto called it liquid sushi. He loved TET on his bread.

Andrew Zimmern ate some on one of his shows where he visited a shellfish hatchery on the east coast.
I've used oyster sauce forever in cooking, basically just oyster feast cooked down!

Even diluted, still ~2x as salty as LMNT lol

NSW diluted
35ppt/3 ‎ ->  11.7 ppt

LMNT
(2.5g NaCl + 0.39g KCl + 0.06g Mg) / 16 oz water -> 6.5 ppt

@PizzaOven @robert4025, if you both really like LMNT, you should try making it yourself! They post their recipe on their website and buying the components in bulk reduces the cost from $1/serving -> $0.1/serving
