  • 5G Fluval, spare tank I bought on a sale back in 2017 (if I recall, I bought it for $75... so FMV, about $30?)
  • 50W heater, spare (FMV $10)
  • Light, spare (Lominie, $35 bought during Prime Day 2 years ago - FMV $20)
  • ATO, pulled together from spare parts I had laying around ($0)
  • 10G Aqueon, spare tank for ATO reservoir I got from a fellow BAR member several years ago ($0)
Misc. Parts -- 3D printed:

  • RFG nozzle ($0)
  • Overflow lid ($0)
  • ATO Reservoir lid ($0)
Decoration (from previous tanks):
  • Sand ($0)
  • Rocks ($0)
Livestock:
  • 2 clowns from other tanks ($0)
  • fireshrimp from other tank ($0)
  • purple tang from other tank ($0)
  • goni won at CFM ($0)
  • purple gorgonia frag with a bit of atomic broccoli macro ($15)
  • CC inferno BTA from @thephoreefer ($100) -- originally was going to use Nexus jokers from home, then decided on BWs but settled on the inferno with the deal I couldn't pass up!
  • +fireshrimp from @salty_taste (+$40)
  • +freebie Grube gorgonia ($0)
Total damage: $175 $215

some 3d printed parts to customize my tank...

RFG nozzle -- this was a pain to get right. I had modeled it using another Fluval 5G at home than realize the internals were different size than the one in my office...

agreed -- it's just here temporarily as a nursery of sorts... still too small for my DT as the other tangs will our compete it for food. Once it gets a bit bigger, then will move it there.

Have had it since it was less than a half dollar size...

That said, I plan on using my office tank as a nursery for baby tangs since a lot of them are so tiny from LFSes...

Brings up a good question, if I take stock out, does the setup cost go down? :)
 
March 2025 Update:

Got past the ugly phase... but decided to let the green film algae grow out a bit to help the pod population explode... Everything is coming along nicely...though, the female is looking gravid so there might be a clutch soon.

Added a second fire shrimp...(+$40) and a freebie Grube gorgonia...

Looks l forgot to hit post....

Been traveling a lot so dealing with a lot of excess green algae and green coraline algae I picked up when I put in a rock from another reefer.

Please I'm in no way affilated with the tang police, lmao but that purple tang in a 5 gallon tanks is meh a bit much. Hopefully you have somewhere appropriate to place him. 5 gallons to be fair is pretty questionable even for a pair of clowns.

I mentioned in my earlier posts that the 5G is more like a nursery for the purple tang. Once it's big enough to fend for food itself then it goes into my other tanks... right now, it can barely compete with the two clowns...

...though once the purple tang moves out, I'm moving in the baby tomini I have in another tank...
