Ok now I'm starting to look at my tanks again I see something in my softie tank I don't like...

FLATWORMS!

*sigh*... flatworm exit here I come. I'm unsure how they got here, if they were simply repressed in numbers and didn't spread much due to lack of food, or if perhaps they were there and I just never noticed them. But it's not like I put anything new in that tank in.. umm easily a year.

Btw, a thought just occurred to me..

I may or may not be able to dose FWE before Saturday... would the responsible thing to do, regardless of all the preaching people do about the quarantine methods of corals, be just to not bring anything from that tank??

Well I'm going to FWE the buggers later today if I get the chance, so I'll simply add to the "note" section, and I know you're a good reefer Jim, unfortunately from the talks of pests that get around, not everyone is as responsible as you :)

I wonder will iodine dips kill flat worms? Hmm, well I have plenty of willing subjects to test it on! :D

Ok, I found out iodine does knock the poo out them.. so maybe I'll just be nice and pre-dip everything.. or just write a warning to dip.

Seems they are kind of like pests that really don't need to be dealt with that much unless they get completely out of control, I'll keep an eye on them reduce feeding, skim more, maybe toss in a predator (peppermint shrimp or something) and see if I can't reduce these in numbers before I break down the tank :D

I don't think iodine dips will kill the flatworms as well as FWE. I somehow got flatworms and I always did Iodine dips. So definitely came either with the LR and was dormant for a year.5 or Iodine just didn't cut it =/

I'm already infested with flat worms, so I'm ok with your frags, hehe =)

I think that's the stuff Norman bottled up, and yeah it caused them to do shrivel up really good.

Having seen these guys and now noticing them in great depth, I must have had these guys for a long while since I recall the "rusty/red" look on the LR before and just thought it was a type of coraline algae.

Eitherway something happened to cause a spike in their numbers, I don't see my cleaner shrimp anymore either, so I think I'll just wait it out.

Goes to show you even with a few years into the hobby you still tend to freak out and scream when you see any little pest :D
