Urgent HELP!

So i'm just sitting here, eating cereal, typing on my computer right? Then there was this huge boom! I opened my aquarium lid and something started making a fizzy sound (like when a coke is opened) then this huge cloud of smoke/fog stuff fly up right in my face! I closed the lid and cut the power (which turned off my computer - my fault) Then i looked in the aquarium and there was still a big wave (ripple effect) going in my aquarium from the blast. i looked in the back compartment... NO HEATER! ??? ... Uhhh ok? ::)

Pull the heater out and examine. Get power back on soon so the tank gets oxygen. The tank can go without a heater for a short period. The oxygen is very important! Make sure some kind of power head is running.

Yeah, yank the power, good first step, then inspect every piece of equipment in there. Never have I heard of a heater going boom... maybe a glass bulb sure. Remove all electronics, visually inspect, then plug them in one at a time outside the tank just to check.

Run some activated carbon if you have it. Rinse the carbon well, add to a mesh bag, add to sump. Correct? guys.

I would it couldn't hurt.
Also make sure if it was you heater that blew that you inspect it and make sure all parts of the heater are accounted four. You don't want to leave any of the filament material in the tank.

All that i found left from him was a little cup shaped piece of glass. i removed it and turned on all the light to the aquarium. I will go to All About Fish later today and get the heater. I check all my other electronics and they are fine. The filter is running and for some reason, my polyps next to the water return making this brow stings come out of them. Probably poop (never seen polyps poop before)
But the heater (the little part left) was moved out of the tank. The rest was vaporized or maby something magical happened.

Check the powerstrip as well.

You will need to do a water change as well.

Check for any water leaks as well. I'm more concerned about why it blew up in the first place. Heaters generally do not blow up.

I knew one guy who has a big FO tank. His heater blew up. All the fish died almost right away. I'm wondering how your stuff still alive. Consider yourself lucky.

My heater was in the back compartment and caused no cosmetic changes to my fish or coral (not guaranteeing anything about changes to the water). As i'm typing this, my fish look a bit too graceful. They are hovering IN the xenia for the first time ever.

Don't take this the wrong way, but if I were living in my parent's home and something blew up and I didn't go bother to find out why it blew up and then something happened down the road causing either a fire or water damage - my folks would kick me behind

I guarantee there is no fire because it only smoked for 5 minutes or so. There is water damage on the hardwood floor, but that was a little "spill"! Tehehe ::)

Also, during the explosion, a smallish rock of polyps (15 or so) blew off from a lager rock (this is kind of like outer space in the asteroid belt). If anyone wants it, it may be available next meeting.

sorry but this sh*t doesn't make any sense.. How the hell a rock of polyps blew off a large rock because of the heat blew up in the back compartment??
