yesterday's earthquake

On topic I wonder who actually straps down their tanks for earthquake loss prevention? Or just relying on insurance..I never have with small or large tanks. I want them to be able to move or slide a bit on the floor if needed..Walls tend to move a lot more than the floors during quakes normally especially higher up. If I lag bolted straps into studs securing my large tank it would probably snap, crack or pull out the stud from wall with very little movement! Small under 20 gallons or taller skinny tanks maybe beneficial ? Thankfully my tanks are on concrete slab with solid bedrock below which helps deflect movement during quakes.. knocking on wood atm anything’s possible!

My worst nightmare. If there is a solution for this, I would like to know too.

Maybe there’s market for large tanks with seismic isolators under stands Ive seen them used under chemical storage tanks and large HVAC roof systems. Theres gota be aquarium builders who have designed or sourced stuff for large stands maybe adding a few coil springs and sway bars lol

The myshake app woke me up alerting me to an earthquake and 2 or 3 seconds later the shaking started. I’m up here in San Mateo and it was a bit of a shake but I wasn’t worried about the tanks.

I’m always worried that when an earthquake starts I’m wondering if this will be the big one.

Not sure if its earthquake related but I found a leak today. Its a small one. I have a pvc pipe that connects my main tank to my frag tank and it developed a leak between the o-rings at the union that connects the 2 tanks. It must have been a combination of the oring about the fail or the tank shifting just ever so slightly pulling the.2 pipes apart at the union? Anyway the leak was about 1 drop a second and I didn't notice it till i smelled it yesterday. I visually saw the leak today. Pushed the tank closer by 1/2" and replaced the o-ring and everything is good. Refilling the tank now, I think I lost 4 gallons of water from this leak. Man I was awake when the earthquake struck, shook my bed for a good 5-8 seconds.
