Fragging Zoas

Have some nice zoas, IMO, that I would like to get into DBTC, but am not sure how to frag them. There are about 20 polyps on a plug. Cut the plug, scrape them off or what? TIA

I prefer to dremel the rock and cut as little flesh as possible but sometimes that doesn't turn out well. I know I have some more sites on it but I'm still digging them up. Anyone have any info for fragging chalice?

Yikes, no gloves in that youtube vid, hehe.

I try to scrape off a bit of rock if I can. I cut around the polyps first with an exacto knife (scalpel would probably be better), then slide the blade under the mat and try to slice some rock off with the polyps.

I wear safety glasses too. The mean greens I have love to squirt, and once it nearly nailed me.

This guy has a lot of good information too. He has a sister site on ricordea's too.

I am not a fan of plugs because I think it's really hard to get the polyps off. If you're lucky you can scrape under or break the plug. I'd try a dremel if you have one. Otherwise I typically try to use a scalpel and get under them. You'll need to be selective where you want to try cutting.

It's not always a 100% success rate so you have to be willing to take the risk :)

Good luck!

Depends on what kind of tools you have. A scalpel can lift individual polyps off the plug if you want and is the easiest way to do so.
