What I often do is hit up ebay, or one of the ebay stores where you get a bunch of filters, carbon, sediment, etc.. might not be up to Spectrapure "standards" and yes they don't care some of the more "exotic" filters (silcone, ultra-high capacity carbon, etc) but as Bryan found out, a clogged filter just becomes quite useless regardless of quality.

I essentially got about 200 gallons out of mine (went through 1 bucket of salt) plus some topoff water before the filter went bad.

Bryan I think it may have to do with the smaller micron rating for the filter set you have.

I think you are probably right. My question is why would they even sell something that would have that small of an output before it spoiled. I would hate to see what would happen if I lived somewhere where the water was bad. TDs in my area is around 60,
