buying some carbon

So anyone have any suggestions on places to buy carbon? Either online or local (south bay?).

I get carbon at BRS as well - I've been using the Rox carbon, does anyone have any opinion about the other carbons they sell?

Out of curiosity, how do you guys prep carbon before putting it in the tank? I have to wash the stuff I have ("Black Magic") a TON to keep it from making the water black. Is that normal? If so, do you wash it in tap water or RODI?

I run my thorugh a two little fishes Phosphate reactor. When I change it out I usually throw a cup under the return tube until the water runs clear, then let it run into the tank.

I run them under tap water until they are clear..

what size carbon do you guys use? i saw someone have the really small kind like sand and it was a pain to use

I try to rinse under RO water, since IMO running it under tap kinda starts utilizing the absorption of the carbon.

rinse it under your Waste WC water and save some water :-D
