Calling all Anemone experts

What the heck.

Does anyone have ideas why he wants to be in here? It was halfway through the grates yesterday before I coaxed him back out and moved him away, but this morning he’s crawled back and all the way through. Foot attached to the sponge filter. Tank is medium-low flow. Probably less than 80 par where he moved to.

maybe theres a higher concentration of food in that area? I'm no expert but when I had RBA they went everywhere and when they are stressed they split in half.

I've raised hundreds and my professional opinion is that all Anemones are assholes. They just do sh*t for no apparent reason sometimes. And then they are fine or they die.

Truth though. Generally if they are moving that much they are unhappy with something. It could be flow. It could be light, or it's very possibly it doesn't "feel" safe where its foot is planted.

give it some time. it will move back when it is ready.

are there two CSBs or other nems? did this one fight with any of them? my csb lost a fight and retreated to another part of the tank. it returned a month later and beat the other BTAs and is now king of the rock.

I had nems stay put for a entire year. No changes and they just decided to up and move.

The question would be:

Any changes to light, flow recently?

Have you moved an corals around or made new tank addtions?

Moving things could have disturbed flow even moderately and new additions could be some type of invisible coral warfare.
Only guesses yet nems are fine until one day they aren't. .

Thanks everyone for your input. Main goal is to make sure he stays completely wet. Silly place for him to go with like half an inch of water there.

They can be seen in quite shallow tide pools in nature and will move as the tide drops. So it knows how much water is available.

Anemones are dumb. They’ll move anywhere and commit suicide if given the chance. Thats why you hear all the stories of anemones getting blended by power heads.

Best chance for keeping them in one spot is give them a rock with crevices so they can stick their foot inside. Doesn’t look like you have too many rocks in the tank.
