Certain Acan Problems

Hey Folks,

I've gotten a few different frags of acans over the past months and I'd say I lose like half of them in the first days. A lot of them get into my tank, open up, nice and juicy and then are gone over night or within about 2 days. I leave them partially shaded or in a lower light section of my tank. I'm very frustrated since most people say they're hardy and fast growers. Makes me want to stick to polyps which are extra hardy :p

I'm not a big tester of my tank, but my tank is very happy overall. I've got a few SPS in there, lots of zoas/palys, some softies, a happy frogspawn, and several other LPS in there. Some of my acans have been fine whereas others just don't make it even when they look so good. Basically overnight I see a skeleton and catch either my cleaner shrimp or peppermint picking at it in the morning.

What do you guys think? Are the shrimps eating em? The acans I got left aren't as plump as the ones that died...

Thanks,

- Herman

I have found acans very hardy, but in the past I have lost them to too high light... You mentioned that you are putting them in a shaded area, try putting them in a *fully* shaded area for a few days and then move them out very slowly.

Would also be helpful to get some tank parameters as well.

Check Mag level as suggested

I adopted acans and micros awhile back ago and had them in less than steller conditions as far as phosphate and nitrate levels (nothing lethal). They aren't bullet-proof but they are pretty resiliant

Sounds like a plan. I'll have to see if I can get the peppermint out and check the magnesium. I've tried to get the peppermint out before and it was tough. Need to set up a trap :p
