For those interested in buying G2 Red Sea tanks

lol I have had three of their tanks ranging from g1 to g2. In fact the only product that stands out to me that I haven’t tried of theirs is there reefled.

So the answer to your questions is that I am very qualified in my assessment of their products.

They suck.

I like their ATO and dosing pump, maybe their wavemakers. Other than that, no disagreement here.

I’ve owned 8 reef wave 45s. 5 failed within two years over the last 5 years as I’ve upgraded tanks, which I replaced the motors for a wonderful $150 each.

Reefmat 1200 owned for 6 months and just replaced that motor with a new one from Ali baba that was $15 compared to the $50 they quoted me for a new one.

1 seam failure

3 times I got reef ab+ and it have shit growing on the inside it.

They have poor quality control in my opinion and thus if anyone asks me about their products I can say with all confidence that generally I find most of their products to be trash.

Which I don’t think is very dumb given my experience.

I am biased since I experienced a seem failure. But I will no longer buy any more red sea products. It seems to have gone beyond the tanks now into other products they make. Oh well.

I've had a G1 250 for 4 years without seam failure. I guess I'm lucky, but also the tank is on the smaller end which helps.

That being said, the front glass panel hanging off the edge of the stand with zero support makes no sense...

The real issue for me is the CS. Products have issues, companies iterate (as Red Sea has done). Things fail and not everything is a home run. They are producing a lot of products for the hobby and put sincere effort into what they develop, I think.

But their customer service is shamefully abysmal - so fuck 'em.

Purchased used. Owner said its about 3 years old.
I would guess gen 1 based on the age, but I think g2 was released around that same time. I have a green “Reefer 250 v3” sticker on my overflow pipe, but it’s a Gen 1. Check the serial number tag in the overflow box to confirm (it should say G2 somewhere if it’s not G1).

My buddy's 625xxl (132 gallon) seam broke while he was on vacation.

The worst part is RedSea delete/challenge/hide all the negative reviews instead of fixing the tank

If I had known the issues with Red Sea tanks- not sure if I would have gone with them or not., I had spoken with A/C owners -with the G1 tanks -def issue. The new generation -they said they could only recall 2 tanks that busted..

As for equipment I have:
Red Sea lights- so far they work. Sometimes on the app it says partial connectivity but they operate accordingly to the settings. I like the shimmer.

Rollermat-has worked like a beast. I incidentally burnt the motor out by forcing to move a few inch a day as I was out of town.. they replaced it without charge.

Dosers -I have 3. I like them much better than the DOS in respects to calibration (only 8 total ml used) -4 to calibrate and 4 to check that calibration. The only one I had some issues with was the one in my mini fridge..which after unplugging and plugging back in it was fine. I also like that you can’t accidentally turn it on. You need to specify a dose and then confirm again.

Downside is limited to 1000 ml a day-not good for AWC or kalk.

ATO -the sensors have busted about once a year. Last time it went -it told me it had failed and there was a link for a replacement free of charge. Came in a week.

My Neptune optic sensors on the ATO would also go once a year and sometimes it would be challenging to detect it when it just stayed open.. the FMM also went nuts on me. I was not happy with it. Tuner didn’t have any web based and would constantly make loud noises.

Reef AB plus- didn’t seem to do much that I could tell.

Nopox-too expensive for what it it is.

Their 4 part system is way too expensive compared to AFR and other trace elements.

I hope this tank holds the line -but if it does go -then AC can get the same tank within 2 days (now out of warranty) -so then heaven forbid get everything into brutes get the old tank off the stand and swap..

One of the reasons I won’t go with custom -replacement in a timely manner if the company is still around.

I believe AC may also start carrying waterbox -but I don’t know what the consensus is on that company. Something to think about in the future but not today..
