Jeff's 120

Yep that will work very well as a frag tank. We used one for BAYMAC and I was very happy with the size. I am taking from the hole saws in the pic you are planning on drilling it? Where did you pick it up. i was actually considering getting one this size as well.

Here's a quick pick of my current frag tank that has been up for about 8 months. Just gave it a super thourough cleaning today since I'm off and had nothing else to do early this morning. I only have a few things that I've had in here and do regularly frag. I've actually not purchased a single coral yet since I moved here in March 08. These are just a few things that came with the established 29G nano I picked up at that time.

Xenia
Super Green Zoos
Light Green/brown Zoos
Yellow Star Zoos with Orange border
Green Fungi
Green Candycane
Brown and Yellow Leathers.

The Zoos and zenia grow rapidly and I can frag pretty regularly. The Green Fungi has done really well also being in here. It was only about 1/4" when I found him in a pack of zoos 8 months ago. He has now grown to about 2 1/2". I hand feed the candycane and fungi mysis about 3-4 times a week. The tank also gets a small amount of cyclopees and phytofeast every day. My huge 14-16 leather I fragged two days ago and made 6 2-3" frags out of. They are doing well getting nice polyp extension.

Can't wait to get the 40G Frag tank up and running with the 120 Display. Will make my first coral purchases since moving here soon after with a variety of moderately hardy SPS.

My wife found me a coupon for Petco for 50% off one item. They sell these tanks normally at $99. They also had them on sale up through this last Saturday at $79. I regret not getting that price at 50% off but was still able to use it on the $99. I'm not sure where my wife got the coupon but I'll try and find out. I bet you can still go into one and tell them you saw the tank was on sale for only $79 on Saturday and ask if they will give you that price. They want your business... I'm sure they'll give it to you for that.

Yep... Drilling myself. I'll be using my drill press that I used to drill my Acrylic 120. Only difference is that I'll use some plumbers putty to create myself a small pool of water where I'm drilling. The drill press allows you to to really control the amount of pressure on the tank and to keep a very steady drilling.

I must make another post on here today. I am happy to have received a nice early Christmas gift this afternoon. PH's galore! I received...

4 Koralia Hydor 4's
2 Koralia Hydor 3's
2 Koralia Hydor 2's
2 Koralia Hydor 1's

I have already put the two Hydor 1's in my 29G nano to replace the terrible old ones I've had in there. Don't even know what brand they were. Got them used many years ago. these hydor 1's are working very nicely in this tank.

Will use the 2 hydor 3's in my 40G breeder Frag tank I'll be setting up this week. The 4 Koralia 4's will work with my Tunze 6060 to give flow to the 120G Display and the other 2 Hydor 2's I have put in my 20G Frag tank replacing some other very bad PH's I've been using.

Obviously I'd prefer Tunze but when considering price the Koralias are the next best thing IMO and free as a gift is an even better deal. This gives me great flow in all my tanks. Very happy this afternoon... ;D

So I'm wanting to be very cautious with what I put into my 120Display SPS/Clam tank. One of my favorite critters that I've kept in my mix and softy tanks is the decorator crab. I know from experience that decorators will harvest zoos, sponge, leathers, xenia and other soft corals to attach to its shell; and I'm totally fine with that. I've kept decorators in mixed tanks with a dozen or so medium to large various SPS colonies with no instances of them messing with the SPS. I am wondering if anyone has seen a decorator mess with SPS in a tank where they could not harvest Softies and Zoos for its camoflauge? Here is a pic of the guy I have in my 29G Nano right now. A ton of personality. Hand feed him live Chaeto every day. Would like to have one in the 120 display but not if he will mess with the SPS. My understanding is that he doesn't.... am I wrong?

So most of my pics are generally pretty crappy; been using an old Canon... Especially when I try to get an up close picture; next to impossible. The good news is that my wife wanted a really nice versital and small camera for Christmas. I found her something that is perfect! not to mention perfect for taking pictures of corals ;) ; at least that is what I understand. I especially like that I can take pictures with the camera underwater. Expect to get some great shots with this guy.

Actually it's not branded. There was a guy selling these fixtures from 24" to 96" on ebay. I picked up two 24"ers about two years ago. At $129 each they were a great deal. They guy had a record history of about 5000 with 100% feedback. Its a 150 MH with 4 sets of two super blue LED's and built in fan in the hood as well as a fan in the ballast. It's worked very well for me. I've actually tried to find the guy again to get a 36" fixture for my 40G breeder but he's no longer selling on ebay.... not sure what happened to him.

A few pics of the fixture; needs a little cleaning, but... :-[

Ive not owned this crab before, but I think with any scavengar as long as you keep them fed they do just fine. Its when they are hungry that things can happen.

Thanks 70Cuda... It's actually not so much an issues as to whether he will eat corals but rather if he will prune SPS to camoflage his shell in the absence of Softies and Zoos. Worst case I may just keep some zoos in this tank as well to make it a non issue.

This little fragging kit my wife found for me is especially cool. It's by Dissekt Right (DR). A nice little kit. Also had two $100 bills in it for buying some SPS frags... So... who would like to hook me up with a nice color and variety assorment of SPS frags in exchange for these two pieces of paper? ;)

A few coral pics with "my wifes" new camera... ;)

Still working on figuring out the settings but my first 10 minutes messing with it looks promising. I bet if I turn off the flow for a second it would help a ton also. Here's some for starters...

Well I made some progress in switching out my old 75g for the new 120G today.

Cut out my base that the tank will sit on. This will sit perfectly on my steel L-bar stand with a hole cut back center that will give just enough room to tighten the bulkheads.

I also was able to to remove all livestock, liverock and sand from my 75g set-up into holding bins while I set up the new tank. All live stock went into the 40g breeder. Filled one 20g Rubbermaid with medium to large Figi LR, Filled another 20g Rubbermaid with medium to large Tonga branch rock, all small LR and rubble went into eggcrate containers placed in the 40g breeder. Also one 20g Rubbermaid is filled with Chaeto and Calerpa and one 7g bucket is filled with 105 pounds of Live Sand.

For the live sand I put a pump with filter in the main tank with a line into a filter sock into the same main tank and then stired the heck out of the sand until the water was running clear. Had to clean out both of my filter socks at least half a dozen times before the water ran clear. The sand looks great now though. I have no concerns at all in moving it into the 120g now.

Found myself a bristle worm in the refugium tonight. Had a couple in the main tank also a couple months back until I put a Secretive Pin Stripe Wrasse in the tank and they were no more.... :D This guy thought he was safe until I pulled him out with some plastic tweazers... 8)

Tonight I am going to do a little clean up and prep for tomorrows projects. Tomorrow I will be stripping down and cleaning the sump/fuge tank and building my new sump/fuge set up. Will also be completing the tank stand, setting and leveling the new tank and completing the initial plumbing. If I have a very productive day I may move to drilling my rock but we'll have to see how it goes.

I'm happy to have the Snowflake out now. He is getting huge... almost 18" near as I could tell this evening. Have him in this bucket here. Put some eggcrate on it to keep him in which always worked fine in the main tank. Walked into the other room a few minutes ago and heard a splash. Walked back in and the eel had pushed off the eggcrate and was cruisin around on my office floor. Grabed him up with a clean handtowel and put him back in the bucket. This time I put some weight on the eggcrate to keep him in. He's swimming around and doing fine. Strong little sucker though. I will be taking him to Max at the aquarium showroom tomorrow morning. Max said he could throw him in one of his tanks.
